Overview

What is this tool?

This page combines two everyday timing tools in one place: a stopwatch that counts up from zero and records lap times, and a countdown timer that counts down from a duration you set and plays an alert sound when it reaches zero. Switching between them keeps whichever one you were using — no need to open two separate tools or lose track of a running countdown while checking something else.

It's built for anything that needs accurate timing without installing an app: timing a workout or a set of intervals, tracking how long a task actually takes, running a kitchen timer, keeping a presentation or a meeting on schedule, or recording splits during a race or a practice run.

Guide

How to use it

1Pick Stopwatch or Timer
2For a timer, set the hours, minutes, and seconds
3Press Start, or hit the spacebar
4Record laps or wait for the countdown alert

How the timing works

The stopwatch tracks elapsed time from the moment it starts, updating the display continuously and stamping each lap with both its split time and the total elapsed time at that point, so it's easy to see both the pace of each segment and the running total. The timer works the other way: it counts down from the duration entered, and when the remaining time reaches zero it plays a short audio alert and marks itself finished. Both can be paused and resumed without losing their current time, and reset returns them to a clean starting state.

Reading lap times

Each lap shows two numbers: the split, which is how long that specific lap took on its own, and the total, which is the elapsed time since the stopwatch started. Comparing splits across laps is the fastest way to see whether a pace is speeding up, slowing down, or staying consistent, without having to do the subtraction by hand.

Why this runs entirely in your browser

Both the stopwatch and the timer run on JavaScript timers inside the tab, so nothing about a session — how long it ran, how many laps were recorded, what duration was set — is ever sent anywhere. That also means it keeps working offline once the page has loaded, and nothing persists after the tab is closed.

Getting accurate results

Browser timers can drift slightly if a tab is left inactive in the background for a long stretch, so for time-critical use it's best to keep the tab active and in view. For the countdown alert to be audible, make sure the tab isn't muted and the device's volume is on — the alert relies on the browser's audio output like any other sound on the page.

Frequently asked questions

A few things people usually want to know before using this.

Yes. Pausing stops the clock without losing the current time, and pressing Start again continues from exactly where it left off.

It records the current elapsed time as a lap, showing both that lap's split time and the total time since the stopwatch started, without interrupting the run.

Yes. When the countdown reaches zero it plays a short audio alert so you don't have to keep watching the screen.

Yes. Press the spacebar to start or pause, as long as focus isn't inside a text field.

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, stored, or shared.
